A letter from our founder

Why we’re giving it away

In January, we launched GoldenDoodle AI as a commercial product after months in beta. The idea was simple. Nonprofits were starting to write with AI, and nothing out there understood the standards they hold for how they talk about people. So we built a writing studio that did. As far as we know, it’s still the only trauma-informed AI writing studio out there, and we still love it.

Then the year happened. [SCOTT: one or two concrete changes since January, in your words.] The models got better every few weeks. Open models got good enough to run almost anywhere. And AI stopped living only in chat windows. Agents now draft, send and publish on their own.

That changed the question for us. It used to be, “How do we get nonprofits into our tool?” Now it’s, “How do we make every tool they use write like them?”

So today we’re releasing that work for free. Three skills: a human-centered language standard, a trauma-informed standard built on top of it, and a human voice skill that strips out the habits that make writing sound machine-made. They work in Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, and in any tool or agent that can load a skill. They’re open source. Anyone can read them, use them and tell us what’s missing.

We’re also publishing the Human-Centered Language Benchmark, our monthly test of how well current models write about people, with and without the standards. We publish the methodology and the raw outputs, so you don’t have to take our word for any of it.

None of this exists without Laura Braden. Laura co-founded GoldenDoodle with me and edits the trauma-informed standard. She brought years of trauma-informed communications work to it, and she has kept it honest about the people it’s meant to protect. The Benchmark was engineered by our team at MKTNG, where Laura and I have spent [SCOTT: years] figuring out how organizations should sound.

I’ve spent over twenty years around nonprofits, most of them small, most of them with one person running all the communications. Those organizations shouldn’t need another subscription to sound like themselves. They should be able to open the AI they already have, or hand the job to an agent, and get writing that respects the people they serve.

This is the first of several things we’re releasing this month. [SCOTT: closing line, or end here.]
